1. Could you briefly introduce yourself and share what inspired you to enter local politics?
I’m Clementine Nowases, a mother of two boys. While I was born in the Hardap region, I’ve been a proud resident of Swakopmund for over 12 years, moving here for what I called “greener pastures.” I was inspired to enter local politics because I care deeply about social justice, which is an issue close to my heart, and I want to bring real solutions to the struggles I see daily in our community.
2. What unique qualities or experiences do you bring to the Swakopmund Town Council?
I bring the energy and fresh perspective of a young woman who is ready to think outside the box to find difficult solutions. I believe women often approach problems with a unique ability to find innovative ways through challenges. Crucially, I live within and interact with the very community I am aiming to represent. I see their struggles daily, which allows me to be genuinely on the same page with residents regarding their needs and aspirations.
3. What are the top priorities you would like to address if elected?
My top priorities are focused on dignity and basic necessities for every resident. This means ensuring fair housing and land allocation. Beyond that, I am focused on bringing basic needs to people’s doorsteps, specifically targeting the provision of clean water and sanitation services that are currently distant from where many people reside.
4. How do you plan to engage with residents and remain accountable to the community?
Accountability is built on presence and honesty. Since I live and interact with the community daily, I plan to maintain that immediate connection. I am committed to fighting for social justice, and that means being accessible, listening constantly, and ensuring that the struggles I witness firsthand translate into immediate action and practical solutions at the Council level.
5. In your view, what are the biggest challenges facing Swakopmund right now?
The biggest challenges are systemic, starting with housing and land shortages. This is followed closely by the lack of basic services in certain areas. Specifically, the distance and difficulty residents face in accessing clean water and sanitation services are unacceptable. These are fundamental needs that we must urgently address.
6. What message would you like to share directly with voters as election day approaches?
I want to share my deep dedication and promise of action. By voting for the Swakopmund Residents Association (SRA), you are choosing a party that stands for and promises quality services for all residents in Swakopmund. Our focus is universal, encompassing every member of our town—and I am committed to delivering that quality for everyone.
