SRA’s Street-Based People Project

Swakopmund has seen an increase in the number of street children and homeless individuals. To address this, the Swakopmund Residents Association (SRA) launched a project last year to support Street-Based People (SBP).

We understand that many come to Swakopmund seeking employment, only to find themselves in difficult circumstances. To tackle this, we’ve partnered with the Coastal Community Youth Faculty (CCYF) to help vulnerable youth develop self-employment skills. Our goals include reducing hunger with nutritious food, promoting physical and mental health, and fostering social and economic inclusion.

We’re excited to introduce our “Don’t give your change, make a change” program. You’ll find donation boxes in various spots around town, such as Bojos Cafe, Andy’s Sushi Oyster and Fine Seafood, and Bar Zonder Naam. Designed by Jam-en-Kaas Brand Design and Communication and crafted by Jacques van der Merwe, these boxes are ready to collect your contributions, all of which will support the CCYF trust fund.

We are deeply grateful to these businesses for their strong support. Together, we can fight poverty and give hope to those in need. We encourage other businesses in Swakopmund to join us in this vital initiative.

The handover was conducted by Rowan van Dyk, our Chairman, alongside Vice-Chairman Barbara van Zijl and Secretary Marita van der Merwe. This is a hopeful step towards reintegrating street people into our community and improving their lives.

Let’s work together to make a meaningful change in Swakopmund!

A great big thank you to, Bojos Cafe, Chrismann at The Trading Post, Meike’s Guesthouse, Bar Zonder Naam  and RAITH DELI for placing boxes in their businesses and helping us with this project.

Help us get THEM OFF the streets.
