SRA Addresses Community Concerns and Plans for the Future
The Swakopmund Residents Association (SRA) is taking proactive steps to address the challenges and concerns raised by the community. In response to feedback from a recent survey, the SRA is focusing on improving visibility and fundraising efforts.
Fundraising Initiatives:
- Golf Day: Councilor Matthias Henrichsen will spearhead a fundraising golf day event, tentatively scheduled for October or November 2024. The proceeds from this event will be used to fund the 2025 election campaign.
Addressing Constitutional Issues:
- Review of Constitution: We are actively reviewing specific points in the SRA’s constitution to ensure clarity and alignment with current practices.
- Manifesto Updates: Committee members are also reviewing the SRA’s manifesto and proposing changes by the end of June. A special meeting will be held to discuss these suggested amendments.
Community Issues and Initiatives:
- Infrastructure and Services: Councilor Matthias Henrichsen reported on various issues, including infrastructure improvements, the hiring of animal control officers, and nursery maintenance.
- Crime Prevention: The Internal Crime Meeting, previously chaired by Councilor Henrichsen, has been handed over to Councilor H Hafeni. This initiative aims to combat crime collaboratively and provide a platform for all stakeholders to raise concerns and discuss action plans.
- Jetty Maintenance: Discussions are ongoing regarding the costs associated with maintaining the jetty.
- Debt Collection: The Ministry of Safety (MOS) is handling debt collection efforts, which are reportedly progressing well.
- Community Needs: Councilor Wilfried Groenewald addressed the needs raised through the Swakopmund Municipality Management Committee meetings. These include maintaining dilapidated government buildings, addressing traffic congestion in the CBD, and finalizing the approval of suburb names.
The SRA’s commitment to addressing community concerns and improving the quality of life in Swakopmund is evident through these ongoing initiatives. By focusing on fundraising, reviewing the constitution, and actively engaging with community members, the SRA is working towards a more vibrant and prosperous future for the town.
